Why I Left (via somemusician)

I reblog this post because of the discussion that has happened via comments. You will see as you read the comments that I have a different opinion about this topic as the author.

However, somewhere when we talk about religion and how the it has been used today to preach God is where I will agree with. His words – “It was at this point, where I realized that what I had been spoon-fed for the past twenty years may actually have been an utter and profound lie.” – where a chord strikes on how I think about preaching of religion in its current form.

P.S.: I do not mean to disrespect anyone’s believes. This is just how I think.

To be sure, there are many reasons why I left Christianity. However, I was asked today what was the one thing that was the *ahem* nail in the coffin for me. When I was a Christian (has it really only been a few months?), I, like many others, partook in the daily ritual of morning devotions. One day, I stumbled across 1 Peter 3:15. Upon reading this, I realized that my belief was without rational justification and evidentiary support. “Well,” I th … Read More

Does evil Exist?

Does evil exist?

The university professor challenged his students with this question. Did God create everything that exists? A student bravely replied, "Yes, he did!"
"God created everything? The professor asked.

"Yes sir", the student replied.

The professor answered, "If God created everything, then God created evil since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are then God is evil". The student became quiet before such an answer. The professor was quite pleased with himself and boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "Can I ask you a question professor?"

"Of course", replied the professor.

The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?" "What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?" The students snickered at the young man's question.

The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460 degrees F) is the total absence of heat; all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat."

The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist?"

The professor responded, "Of course it does."

The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."

Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?"

Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course as I have already said. We see it every day. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil."

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not like faith, or love that exist just as does light and heat. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

The professor sat down.

The young man's name - Albert Einstein.

The smaller things of life

“How many people, make you feel special?” “How many people, make you feel extraordinary” – a few; maybe you will be able to count them on your fingers. Yet, most of us do not realize that they do so. Even when we do realize that; we are so busy with other chores in our life that we choose to ignore them.

God – has His own ways of teaching you lessons of life and some are not that easy. Some times those lessons are very easy going and you enjoy while, but at other times they bring in a lot of pain. It is like how one is educated. Play school, Pre-primary are all so much fun. We learn so much and yet enjoy. But, when we reach high-school the lessons get tougher and mistakes cost heavily. It is important who we are and how we choose to define ourselves.

Path to doors of destiny
Path to doors of destiny

Our lives are filled with crossroads and once we decide which path to take those path lead us to certain doors that help us define who we are.

Search for Peace

We (Mom, Dad, Preeti and I) are sitting on the dining table having our dinner when my Dad asked me if I want to  go along with him to the Golden Temple (Holy Place in Amritsar). I said no, because I had to work on weekends. And then started another debate between my parents and me.

For a long time, I have had a strange relationship with my God. Over time, I have found him looking over my shoulder and taking care of myself. There have been times, when I was in trouble and I have reached out to him in pain and he has responded back every time. Not always has the answer been what I have wanted it to be, but always I was relieved of my pain and I am so thankful to Him for that. I have not found myself standing on doors of a holy place to speak to Him. I just try to find that place in my Heart.

A few days back, a friend of mine showed me a picture of his and a quote which goes as follows

Worship today like you wont worship again,
Think about it like this is the last thought,
If you have that desire, the zeal – nothing can stop you from achieving it!!!
Go for it my dear friend
Go for it!!!

#Note To Self – Its always about both the things – Prayers and Your Efforts

In this quote, I understand the points about efforts and desire to get something so that nothing should come in your way. However, I do not understand the point of ‘Worship’ and ‘Prayers’. And to me it is conflicting ones’ own Faith in God. If you believe in His presence, have Faith in his doing towards you, do you really have to Pray to Him and ask him that for you. Why would you not have Trust and Faith in Him to give you what is best for you.

The question I want to ask is “why do we pray?”

Not that I do not pray, but I pray to God to lead me to things that are best for me and others around me. I stopped praying for specific desires a long time ago. I have Faith, that I will find Peace one day

Life is as good as you can make it

Well, it is true. How happy or sad you are simple depends on how you deal with life and its challenges. Things can be very simple or they can be very complex – just think how do you want to handle them. Remember when you were a kid and you would do things that you would like to do – play, have fun. Tensions were very simple like need to finish your homework!!

Think now what has changed? You know many things around you that should make you happy. Look at your family – do you need anything else? Think real hard. I dont think so. So then why do we feel it that way. Because we want the best for people around us, the ones we love. Now what is the best – does it means the costiliest things are the best? Almost (almost) all of us think that way.  But that it not true. If you want to use a car to go to office which means driving through a crowded road in heat, all you need is a vehicle with 4 wheels that has an AC. What aditional purpose will a Ferari serve.

It is all in our minds, we want the costliest and not he best because we want to show it to others. This is a web that leads to only disontentment and nothing else.

Difficult, sure it is – I have still not reached where I should be, but am trying and believe me it helps. Try!!

What inspired me to start this?

How may times do we find ourselves searching for answers, being at crossroads and not knowing what to do? But, eventualy we all take the decisions – are they right or are they not? No one knows and I believe that no one can know that. Things that seem right, may not seem so later.

So? I do not have all the answers, and i dont know if i ever will find some? But, I can try !! that is the important.

I saw a movie which inspires the title of the blog and here is my attempt to find the answers.

Bricks of Life

I was standing on my porch and when I noticed some masons working on a house. I saw them picking up bricks and putting them together and in a little while there was a wall; a little while later there was a structure of what later may be a beautiful room in the house.

Thinking of life in the same way; we are born and a foundation is laid. Then it is our parents who try to provide the best foundation during our childhood. Then we grow up and find life throwing bricks at us every day. It is then us only who can pick those up and build a great building or leave them scattered.

Just like we put together bricks to build a house that provides us shelter in stormy weathers, we should use the bricks of life to build a house of experience to help us in difficult times.
