Last few days have been interesting given that a “taboo” topic was brought to the center of everyone’s life. Where families like mine we would not speak of the topic, News, Entertainment, name it – everyone was talking about it – Porn. And it all started in the middle of political arena when the news of 3 ministers in Karnatka assembly watching porn on their mobile phones spread like wildfire. It had to because this time it was BJP on the line especially when Congress has been taking the heat for a long time. They had to retaliate, but they got the reasons all wrong.
I have been hearing of this case on Radio channels for last couple of days, and have been thinking why the fuss. Last night, a fellow blogger wrote about this which summarizes my views on the topics.
I can’t reconcile with the fact that these ministers have resigned from their post if the reason was that they were not doing their work, but everyone around is talking about “they were watching porn” makes no sense to me. A very popular radio station has been mocking the same reason when one of their self-marketing slogan “Aaj ka radio station” has a teaser “Baap ke zamaane main danda maarne ke kaam aata tha, aur aaj ke zamaane main…” (rest we all know what they want to imply).
Seriously?! How can a media group lay double standards in same breath? Lets penalize the ministers for not doing their jobs, but not for watching something that is so open now in everyday world. Another fellow blogger wrote about the movie Ra-one placed as a Children movie, and i agree with him. I was looking forward to watching this movie on a Sunday night with my family and after 20 minutes, I had to turn back to another channel because it had profanity beyond reason.
Media – phew we all know what they can do, this is just another example.

I wrote yesterday on why I think Anna should not use the current approach and make his political party to fight for the bill. A friend had asked me this question and on my suggestion he responded with details of an interview that Anna did with Aap Ki Adalat. The interview was a good one and the points that Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal brought up were valid ones. their concerns that the ruling party and their members are corrupt and so is the opposition is true to its very roots. Their point that changing the ruling party will not solve the issue because the opposition is also corrupt is try too. And it is evident in the way our MPs have enacted in this entire matter – I have not heard of MPs who have come forward in support of the Jan Lokpal Bill.
As Anna concluded his interview, he did mentioned a couple of points that call out the need of such an Andolan:
- Youth has come forward to support the movement; and it includes those who have never even voted. He mentioned that he happy to see that Youth can relate to the patriotism for India which has died over the years. Today when people do not stand up to the National Anthem or stand up making faces, here is one movement that has brought all of them together for a greater cause;
- Anna said that someone who has a wife, kids and parents to support can not come forward. He added he does not expects them to come forward and go to jail because they have family to support. However, he does asks them to come forward and stand if it is harmless or support in a way they can;
- Anna called out to people are over 60 years and asked them – why can not they come forward. Their families are all settled and even if they go to jail, they will still get food in their;
- Anna and Kejriwal said many times over that this has to be a peaceful movement – no violence.
All of this makes so much sense to me. In all the material I have been reading, various activists or people; no one articulated the need or this movement the way these two did.
There is only one point that still baffles me – why does Team Anna does not want to fight for political power, get elected and then pass the bill. Given that this is not the only issue India has, if they come into power they will have the power to do not just one right thing, but lots of other right things. This question was asked many time to Anna and Arvind. The points I can make out are:
- Arvind said (rephrased): why do we have to be power for something that is wrong?
- Anna said (rephrased): I stay away from all government parties because if I would have not, I would have been unable to do all that I did
- Anna said (rephrased): This is mud, and I do not want to get into the ditch
I hope not, but if this Andolan takes a turn like the recent event at Ramlila Maidan with Baba Ramdev, then this movement across India may take a turn for the worse or maybe Team Anna has been able to provide the leadership to the youth that they will not reach out to violence and stick to Gandhiwadi principles.

Of course, the movement has now started and no one can stop it. Anna has been fasting for 10 days now (almost 250 hours). But, whatever Team Anna is doing it is for a greater cause. They can do only so much, and even after that the Lokpal gets corrupted then we may need another Anna, but this is the right thing to do. I may never fully agree to the methods, but I always supported and will continue to support the sentiments and the need for the Lokpal bill.
I will pray for the safety and success of Team Anna, so that in next elections I can go and vote for an honest minister.

India against Corruption started a few months back when a Anna Hazare come up with a Lok Janpal Bill to fight against Corruption. However, started to heat up a fortnight back when Anna went on fasting as protest against the government. The whole Country is behind him and why not he is doing the right thing – trying to eradicate corruption from India. In just two weeks there are several forums that have come up to support this movement. A few have been linked below. I am sure there would be a twitter because I can see applications for mobiles too.
All the people I meet and speak with about this, or even those whose opinion I can hear are in full support of Anna. However, for some reason I am not – and it is because of his methods to fight corruption.
I feel that there could have been ways to fix this problem. Going on a fast and asking public to come support you in this fashion where a smallest of mis-understanding can send India into riots. More so there are so many chances that people will use this situation for their advantage and hurt others. If you have seen the movie Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai, you would know what I am talking about. Team Anna says this is democracy and we have the right to protest. They blamed Government for arrest of Anna arrest which was to avoid such a situation. However, like always when we are so into a motion we forget what are the downsides of it. We just think on our circumstances and forget there are so many other people involved who will not think your way and their way may harm someone.There is no movement worth supporting if it has potential to hurt people.
So, the question remains if this is not the right way, then what is? I am sure everyone would have watched Nayak, that is my answer to fighting corruption. Anna has the support, why can they not setup their party and fight elections; get elected by the people. Once the people have elected them, they should fix India. And being in power, they can fix so many other things – so why just corruption. Today, when Team Anna is asking Government to accept the Jan Lokpal Bill, they are essentially asking to make laws – that is not how you run a country in a democracy.
To top it all there are controversies around the methods of fast and fast itself. I do not know how true these are, but at the top there is a level of politics that we just can not understand. We are common man and we see things in a very common way. I wish Team Anna can fix India but I pray in the process they do not hurt India.

Fight democracy not with protests and violence, but with democracy. If you have support you should use it to fight it the right way. Any methods that can lead to harm people is not the right way of doing things. It is important to start by saying that I do not believe in this statement. This is what I read a few days ago on someone’s Facebook wall (I don’t remember who; not that it matters).
But I do want to point out that people who believe in this statement are the ones from who you can expect a lot of office politics because these are the kinds of people who will do anything to keep you down and out in office, these are the people who spend time in thinking how to make other’s life miserable and not work towards the greater cause. These are the people who are not leaders because leaders believe in growing together.
If you ever come against someone who believes in this in your office try to stay away and done be a jerk.
Never outshine your master
Always make those above you feel comfortably superior. In your desire to please or impress them, do not go too far in displaying your talents or you might accomplish the opposite – inspire fear and insecurity. Make your masters appear more brilliant than they are and you will attain the heights of power.
